Meet Nicole Funchess

Your Advocate Committed to Your Family’s Future

Nicole Funchess is a Senior Associate Attorney at Best Interest Family Law Firm and an experienced litigator who represents clients in complex, high-conflict, and high-asset family law matters. She handles divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, post-decree disputes, civil protection orders, and other contested family law proceedings.

Nicole began her legal career as a public defender in Louisiana after graduating from Louisiana State University Law Center. That experience put her in the courtroom early and often, developing the preparation, judgment, and advocacy skills necessary when the stakes are high. After moving to Colorado, Nicole focused her practice on family law and has since litigated dozens of complex cases involving issues such as business valuations and trust interests, disputed income and support calculations, allegations of child abuse and domestic violence, interference with parent-child relationships, and other challenging financial and parenting issues.
Nicole believes effective representation starts with understanding the person behind the case. She takes the time to understand her clients’ priorities, explain their options clearly, and develop a strategy tailored to their circumstances and goals. She is comfortable taking difficult cases to trial when necessary but also recognizes that the best result does not always require a courtroom. Whether through negotiation or litigation, Nicole focuses on providing practical, thoughtful, and effective advocacy.
Nicole was elected Treasurer of the Douglas-Elbert Bar Association in 2026 and was named the organization’s 2023 Outstanding Young Lawyer. Her professional recognition also include Super Lawyers Rising Star (2026), Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America (2026), and the Top 10 Under 40 Attorney Award for the State of Colorado from the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys (2026).
Outside of her legal practice, Nicole enjoys exploring the Rocky Mountains with her chocolate lab, Astro, reading, and cooking.
